Molecular Core Facility

SCHEDULING ANNOUNCEMENT

The Molecular Core Facility will be closing early on the following days:

Friday April 22nd CLOSING at 3pm

Wednesday April 27th CLOSING at 3pm

Thursday April 28th CLOSING at 3pm

Friday April 29th CLOSING at 3pm

Please plan accordingly Sequencing Projects and qPCR plates should be at the core by 1pm on these days.

We are in the process of trying to find fixes to problems with Sequence submissions, X1191.

The Molecular Core in room L7032 provides a number of services to the molecular biology research community that should make the performance of their research programs more efficient, convenient and cost effective. The major components are:

Biological & Tissue Culture Reagents The Molecular Core stocks and orders from multiple vendors that include Invitrogen, Qiagen, New England Biolabs, Biorad, Clontech and Applied Biosystems, Inc. (Perkin Elmer, Ambion). Along with specialty items that were bought in bulk to provide users a cost effective product.

Cryofilms - Finetec

Disposible blades - Leica

13x2mm Disk BaF2 - Spectral

OligonucleotidesThe Molecular Core is now carrying oligonucleotides from both Sigma and IDT (Integrated DNA Technologies). Both companies provide high quality oligonucleotides at very competitive prices, as well as many specialized oligonucleotides such as RNAi and oligo-chromaphores for qPCR.

DNA SequencingIn order to provide competitative pricing and access to the latest sequencing technology the Molecular Core has teamed up with Agencourt/Beckman Genomics. Samples may be dropped at the Molecular Core L7032 upto 4:00pm on most days for processing to Agencourt on the sameday.

DNA MicroarrayContact us for more information or Anupinder Kaur in the Translational Genomics Core x6178.

Quantitative PCRThrough the Molecular core users have access to the ABI 7900HT machines for their Real-Time PCR needs. The ABI 7900 is capable of running Applied Biosystems Low Density Arrays.

InstrumentationAt the Molcular Core in L7032 there is access to:

SYNGENE G:Box - for UV imaging and chemi illuminecense imaging

NanoDrop - a 1ul spectrophotometer for broad range (1.5ng/ul to 3000ng/ul) nucleic acid concentration determination.

Promega Maxwell - can robotically help you with your genomic DNA and RNA extraction from cells and tissues.

User Information & Registration

All of the Molecular Core's transactions are computer based and increasingly we will be utilizing direct ordering through this intranet connection. Your responsibility is to obtain a User ID from the Molecular Core Staff and chose a Password that ensures that all transactions can be traced to their origin. Begin the process by clicking the User Registration button on the left panel.

If you have questions regarding your account, User ID or Password, please contact Trushna Desai by calling 860-679-3720, by email at Molcore@nso1.uchc.edu, or in person at the University of Connecticut Health Center - Room #L-7032.
